Calcitic limestone is one of the most versatile raw materials in heavy industry. Essential for Portland cement manufacturing, lime production for construction, and glassmaking, it also serves as a flux in metallurgical and steelmaking processes — lowering ore melting points and removing impurities. Its high calcium carbonate concentration ensures efficiency and quality across every application.
Liming with calcitic limestone is the most effective practice for correcting soil acidity and increasing the availability of essential nutrients such as phosphorus, potassium, and calcium. By neutralizing toxic aluminum and raising pH to optimal levels, limestone promotes root development, improves soil structure, and boosts fertilizer efficiency — resulting in more productive and resilient crops.
In the calcination process, limestone is heated to temperatures between 800 °C and 1,200 °C in industrial kilns, where calcium carbonate (CaCO₃) decomposes into calcium oxide (CaO) — quicklime — and carbon dioxide. The resulting lime is one of the most widely used inorganic chemical inputs in industry, with applications ranging from steelmaking and water treatment to glass production and pulp and paper manufacturing.
Calcitic limestone is the primary natural calcium source used in animal feed formulation, containing 36–40% calcium with low magnesium content. Essential for eggshell formation in laying hens, bone strengthening in cattle, and mineral balance in swine and equines, it is supplied in specific particle sizes that optimize bioavailability and absorption throughout the digestive tract.
